The work involved the complete re-construction and extension of a family home in South Dublin.
The original house, which is typical of the area was divided into a series of small rooms with low floor to ceilings and the site was steeply sloped with limited access to the garden.
We totally re-imagined the house , keeping the original detail and unusual roof profile to the front but opening up the whole house with a new triple height stairs and a series of contemporary glass gables stretching out into the garden.
Light is drawn right into the heart of the plan on every level. with a new internal courtyard.T he architecture of the house is brought out into the garden so that they read seamlessly together as a series of internal and external rooms.
The look is contemporary with a simple palette of wood, stone, marble and steel forming a backdrop to the external spaces that the eye is constantly drawn out to.
