The Dunmore is a new bar and restaurant in Rathmines that we designed for owners of the well known the strand inn in Dunmore east
The existing building had been fitted out as a pirate ship in its previous incarnation and had lain derelict for a couple of years.
Despite this inauspicious canvas, the building had a huge amount of potential and the inspiration for the design really came from the building itself because it is so particular.  It has amazingly large and airy spaces, each very much with their own personality. With this in mind, we decided to let the building speak for itself and strip back and enhance what was already there. During the refurbishment we uncovered more historic fabric which makes the design really special. The materials used have mostly been re-used from the building itself to give a sense of continuity and timelessness with some newer and sharper dramatic designer elements to contrast with them in the furniture and lighting.
